So one might expect a picture of fireworks? Well, no. I’ve got better than that – the fireworks timelapse that I made last night.

This picture is actually after the show, when all the boats that navigate into the bay to watch the fireworks sail back to the harbor, hence all the lights Check out the video though, it’s pretty awesome

It’s this time of the year when the Vancouver community celebrates its sexual diversity – Pride weekend!

Apparently one of the largest prides in North America, this year the skies were blue and temperatures high, to the joy of the many gays and lesbians coming from all over the country to celebrate their pride.

Downtown Vancouver was completely packed up, streets were closed for the parade and a population grew by thousands!

This shot is of the parade going through Pacific Street in the Westend. I love it because it shows the mountains at the back – reminder of what this place is also all about: not only is Vancouver a very progressive, open-minded and welcoming place, but it’s also one of the most beautiful cities in the World, set a the foot of the mountains and beside the water.

Get the jist of why people come here?

Next to Banff is a place called Lake Louise, renowned for its turquoise-blue freezing water and its glaciers. Pretty touristy sight, but nonetheless still breathtaking.

Turns out another event at the rodeo is the chuck wagon racing, which is held in the evening, after the actual rodeo.

This discipline involved driving a charriot pulled by horses, and getting around the track as fast as possible.

Super impressive sport, and not the least dangerous, as it often involves crashes and injuries. What’s most impressive is the horsepower used to drive the wagons, solely powered by the actual horses.

Recommended to everyone!

Turns out the Stampede is what one might call a big “fair”- with the exception that everyone is wearing cowboy hats and that there’s a huge stadium for the few nutjobs who are professionally trained to take part in the rodeo.

There’s actually a few different disciplines in the rodeo – of course the usual suspect is bull riding. A more difficult (and might I say elegant) variation of the rodeo is the horseback calf wrestling, as featured in this shot.

The objective of the game is to catch the calf with the lasso, get off the horse, and wrestle the calf to the ground. All this in the shortest amount of time.

Easier than it looks…

This is some hotel on the way to Calgary, by a lake. Would be nice to get a room in there one day, but only if the sun came out!

I did want to feature this one though as it reflects pretty well the Quebec drinking culture, which actually reminds me a lot of Belgium.

Quebec is renowned for its microbreweries, and I have to admit they are pretty awesome: bars that brew their own variety of beers and serve them fresh out of the containers. Pretty awesome.

These boards are typical to QC, where the beer selection is posted for everyone to chose from. Visible, fun, and always good drinking!!!

Just a quick note on car rental companies. I called up Avis in the USA to rent a Ford Mustang. They assured me there was one available at the Airport in Washington DC, and gave me a ‘special price’ if I paid over the phone. Turns out, they didn’t have a mustang, and the reservation centre charged me 5 times the reservation, blocking my credit card for the duration of my whole trip. Conclusion: don’t get Avis for your next car rental! It sucks.

So instead of the mustang, we got ‘upgraded’ to a Chevy Camaro. Ok, it’s not as classy as a Mustang, but it’s one piece of a car. Great looks, great engine and definitely a look-over-the-shoulder kind of car!

Drove it from Washington DC all the way to Quebec City in the North (through NYC, Cape Cod, Boston and Montreal) in just under a week. Needless to say it was a bit of a change from my Dodge Caravan but yet it missed the space my van offers.

Great toy for a road trip and highly recommended on countryside narrow windy roads!
