Téléphérique de la Bastille
After visiting the Old City, we headed to La Bastille, the old fortified fort of the city, built in 1591 by the Seigneur de Lesdiguières, a Huguenot leader, to protect against the Catholics in the last Religious War.
Louis XVIII, in the 19th Century, decides to re-enforce the structure, which hadn’t been used since its construction. Today it is a touristy site, with over 600,000 visitors per year.
We didn’t take this lift but walked up, about 250m, to the top of the fortress. The steps were steep but it was worth the effort, as when we got to the top it started getting really sunny and warm, with beautiful views over the Old City.
