Elephanta Island
After visiting the main landmarks of Mumbai, we decided to take a 50-minute boat journey to Elephanta Island, a Unesco World Heritage Site, where temples have been forged through the rock, to the effigy of Shiva, one of the Gods in Hinduism. It is said to be the most serene sights to visit in India.
These temples were built by Indian labour, over 3 generations, who carved through these rocks to recreate the inside of a series of temples, where they created sculptures to represent important scenes of the Hindu Gods.
It was a very quiet and peaceful sight to visit, and very interesting at the same time, to get an insight on the religion and its different representations.
