River Ganges
The view of the Ganges from the river banks is very impressive. As you arrive in this intricate city, full of narrow streets and small vendors, it’s amazing to discover that all this chaos hides a view over one of the longest rivers in the World.
The river originates from the high mountains of Nepal, and serves the populations’ needs all the way from Delhi to Calcutta.
However, as it gets to Varanasi, it has already been prone to many pollution sources, not mentioning the 20 odd sewer pipes which use the river here in Varanasi. This doesn’t stop the local population from using this stream of water for bathing, washing their clothes, and purifying their sins.
Personally, I resisted the temptation to take a tip, soon after we were told limbs or even dead bodies regularly surfaced from this holy river. Not my cup of tea!
