Longtail Boats
This is probably one of the most touristy things which you can do in Bangkok, but totally worthwhile! The river tour is very refreshing while visiting Bangkok as it takes you around remote areas of the city, which allows you to see the city from a different angle.
Along this route there are a lot of very poor areas, but they are always surrounded with beautiful, colourful golden temples. It is strange to think how much money is put into religion when some people who live on those river banks sleep in shacks and tents.
Again, some piece of advice – If you want to do one of those river tours in Bangkok, DO NOT go down to the Palace pier, as they will try to rip you off! It is recommended by the TAT office to pay a minimum of 1000 Bahts per person for a river tour, but we managed to get it for 550 Bahts each. Our way of doing it was to go visit the Barges Museum on the other side of the river (which, by the way, allows you to go through typical narrow rural streets, which you wouldn’t normally get to see as a tourist) then agree for a local to take us around on the river and drop us off at one of the palaces!
On my list of things to do in Bangkok, this is definately at the top. Just make sure, again, you do it authentically
