San Kamphaeng Hot Springs
We drove to the East of Chiang Mai for about 35kms to stumble upon this beautiful resort of San Kamphaeng, which offers natural hot springs.
The drive there was quite a mission (I’ll talk about the drive back later!) as we were in a hurry to get there before sunset, and we set off from Chiang Mai at around 4pm. We got there around 5pm and ran to the mineral water swimming pool. It was probably the most relaxing moment in Thailand so far, with nothing to worry about other than how good it was to not be home right now!
A couple of essential tips here: if you drive a scooter there, it’s about 45mins drive on motorways etc, be careful on the roads as they are quite busy. Once you get there, do not park the bike in the bike shed as they will charge you for nothing. Try to get in without payng for the springs as nobody really checks (especially in low-season!) and when you ride back to Chiang Mai, be aware that all the bugs come out at night and it is quite disturbing when you are riding at 80km/h without a visor or a windscreen – I had to wear a towel around my face to protect me from being hit by volatile insects, which feels like you’ve been hit by a paintball gun!
